2019, You're Late

Firstly… I hope you’ve all had a glorious Christmas and a very merry New Year. Alex and I spent our new year’s drunk in the queue of Oceana after he had just been sick in my mates sink. Think of that how you will. But it was one of the best new years yet (As well as last year). I’ve been a bit MIA (missing in action) and I’m fully aware. But it’s probably true that so far this year I’ve had the best highlights and the worst low points of my year so far. I’ve started my new job and it’s the best decision I’ve made since I graduated, I L O V E  IT and everybody has been nothing but friendly. It’s the first job I’ve had where I actually am being the most inspired and creative that I can possibly be, enabled by amazing people and an amazing company. I’m so excited for my future there and have such a good feeling of settlement already. Besides, as we all know, last year was trial and error.  I’ve been stressed because of all the changes but this is my year I’m tellin...

6 Halloween's to Celebrate

This time of the year is my favourite, the chill in the air and a need to bring out my jacket collection is incredibly satisfying. It is also the time of a year for many to celebrate Halloween traditions, October 31. I’ve gone from celebrating at uni with extra af make up (what is scary about a unicorn??) and a bottle of cheap vodka/ wine to to this year visiting local farms for a pick-your-own pumpkin session and a dominoes with a non-spooky film. Growing up at a Christian school and being a good local village girl, the scare factor was never really something that tickled my fancy. With my extreme LACK of culture I did think it would be interesting to look into what Halloween means around the world.

Mexico- Day of the Dead

James Bond Spectre- style (fantastic film fyi), Mexicans enjoy the Day of the Dead between November 1 and November 2, where they celebrate the lives lost previously. They believe the Gates of Heaven open up at midnight on Halloween and the souls of children return to earth to be with their families. November 2 the souls of adults do the same.

Romania- Day of Dracula

Visitors from around the world flock to Bran Castle, to celebrate Halloween at Vlad 'The Impaler' Tepes’s purported home at Bran Castle in Transylvania. The blood thirsty site offers tours and parties at Count Dracula’s home.

Nigeria- Awuru Odo Festival

This marks the return of loved ones every two years which lasts up to SIX MONTHS?! It is celebrated with music, food and masks before the dead return to the spirit world.

Japan- Kawasaki Halloween Parade

At the end of October, thousands of people dress in Halloween costumes just outside of Tokyo for the biggest parade in Japan. However not any Tom, Dick or Harry can join in. They must apply two months before.

Ireland- Samhain

Ireland often practise Celtic and Pagan rituals with Samhain which means ‘end of the light half of the year’. They celebrate with similar games, parties and bonfires to England and USA but have more traditional foods like the fortune telling cake, Barmbrack, full of coins, buttons and rings.

China- The Hungry Ghost Festival

On the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, which is between August and September, people believe that spirits get restless and roam the world. The festival is a way to feed the spirits both food and riches for what they need in their after-life.
