2019, You're Late

Firstly… I hope you’ve all had a glorious Christmas and a very merry New Year. Alex and I spent our new year’s drunk in the queue of Oceana after he had just been sick in my mates sink. Think of that how you will. But it was one of the best new years yet (As well as last year). I’ve been a bit MIA (missing in action) and I’m fully aware. But it’s probably true that so far this year I’ve had the best highlights and the worst low points of my year so far. I’ve started my new job and it’s the best decision I’ve made since I graduated, I L O V E  IT and everybody has been nothing but friendly. It’s the first job I’ve had where I actually am being the most inspired and creative that I can possibly be, enabled by amazing people and an amazing company. I’m so excited for my future there and have such a good feeling of settlement already. Besides, as we all know, last year was trial and error.  I’ve been stressed because of all the changes but this is my year I’m tellin...

We're All Summer Ready

Warning: I dare to even question societies values and ideas of ‘summer body ideals’.

With the rain finally packing up for home time, summer is finally here. Summer can be awkward for some as we all start to show a little more skin and perhaps realise we’re not quite prepared for the bikini snaps just yet- even with a HUJI filter- but personally, I prefer to dress for what compliments my body as opposed to avoid events or plans with friends.

Societies’ dysfunctional way of communicating what the expectations are to look attractive or behave means that actually we have lower- self esteem than ever. A study that I had researched found that 101/237 females located a large correlation between social media and body dissatisfaction. Just under half.

Without sounding too cliché and like some self-help book you read on the loo, confidence is key for any size. Recently within my final piece at University I researched just how common the media makes us feel insignificant and dissatisfied with our body shapes. Growing up I haven’t always been the skinniest of the group (although I have been the mini’est at just 5ft…) but I’ve always been happy within myself. That’s what’s key. And it’s the same for any body size or shape, as long as you’re happy and healthy, the media will work to please you as that’s how they make their sales. The more we buy into unhealthy habits that are trending on social media to lose weight, gain weight, build muscle or fit whatever trend is appealing the most like’s on Instagram, the more the media will carry on with such Stigma’s.

So I guess that’s the key- dress for how you want to compliment your body, glow in your own skin and be happy. I know I’d certainly remember “what a sick night/ day that was...”  as opposed to “oh I really felt shit that night because…”. Summer comes in all shapes and sizes, as do we.
