I am not the first and certainly not the last person to say living with your parents in your early 20's is bitter- sweet. Saving pennies is never a bad thing, as well as all the luxuries that were missed at Uni such as baths, home cooked and free meals as well as a CLEAN house. And for those of you who just haven't been able to, or chosen to move out yet, that also applies to you, you just don't realise it yet.
However there are things that are missed, or things that are to look forward to when you move out including the indepENDENCE!!!
Ahhh- the independence, especially for those of you who also live in the muck- spreading countryside with a serious lack of public transport. However, there are things that can make moving home or living at home yours. See- living at home for many is actually a decision made by the market, by it being incredibly expensive and therefore almost impossible.
Firstly, create your own space, it may sounds obvious but spending time making your area yours is incredibly important. Whether that be your bedroom, an office, a cupboard in the kitchen, your own bathroom.. there are so many techniques to customise a space for your own living or storage area. Organise it however you wish, add those fairy lights and that garish piece of art or drunk photographs that your mum literally can't stand.
Secondly, although it is obviously encouraged and healthy to definitely spend time downstairs with your family in their living areas and socialising with them, don't feel guilty for wanting your own space. Growing into your early 20's it is only natural to want your own space and privacy and sometimes a night watching I'm A Celeb with a glass of wine or hot chocolate on your own is totally fine.
Thirdly, and lastly, involve your parents and family as you develop new interests and friends, the last thing you want is for them to feel isolated when you naturally want your own space. It is so important for them to feel included in your business as they won't pry when you finally want to hibernate.
